I AM

It felt like my life was falling apart.

So, one day, I set sail upon the Sea of Regrets searching… for a distant place I knew only in my mind.

I eventually found my destination after what must have been a very, very long time.

As I approached it, I could see the Shores of Despair. It was a dismal place. Not very inviting.

I looked around and soon spotted the Cliffs of Sadness. They reminded me of how I felt.

I felt the Disappointment of the Journey and thought the toll it had taken upon me was greater than I could bear.

After landing, I crossed through the Fields of Sorrow on the way towards my final destination.

I came around the corner and much to my Dismay I noticed one lowly tree, standing alone.

I knew that was my final resting place.

I reflected on my life and thought only of my Unhappiness and how unbearable it was.

I sat below the Tree of Greif and began Mourning and contemplating my Life.

It was in that moment that I suddenly had an overwhelming Sense of Content which brought about a Feeling of Happiness, and Fulfillment?

The more I thought about my life and the blessings I do have, the greater the sense of Joy I experienced.

It was in that moment I stood up and noticed it was actually the Tree of Life I was sitting beneath.

Ashamed and yet grateful for the tree, I journeyed back home.

Soon as I crossed the fields, I realized they were actually the Fields of Glee. I just didn’t notice.

I soon passed the cliffs and realized that they were actually the Cliffs of Happiness. I just couldn’t see that at the moment I arrived.

Soon I was on the shore only to realize it was the Shores of Bliss I was actually standing on.

An Overwhelming sense of Peace and Gratitude came upon me knowing that my storm had passed, and I was once again free to enjoy my life again.

I soon set sail upon what was now the Sea of Satisfaction headed back home.

I felt the Gratitude of the Journey and the Revelation it had given me.

I realized Pain would come into my life. But pain, like storms, it will eventually pass.

It was in my Moment of Despair it made me aware of how Actually Lucky I was to be alive.

And how good it is to be who I AM.

I am highlighting how we can feel overwhelmed by pain. But pain, like storms, will pass.

Don’t Wait to Find Out You Are Dying Before You Start Living

Everything in life is temporary. Nothing lasts forever, especially life itself. Life is short and YOU are to create your WOW moments. Don’t Wait to Find Out You Are Dying Before You Start Living.

Death is an ugly subject to some, and to others it’s a welcomed event. When it takes someone away from us too soon, it breaks our heart. To the old and tired soul, it is a familiar enemy that has been chasing them for a while. They fight it, elude it, sometimes cheat it, until one day they finally can’t.

The quota of death is one per person and everyone gets one. There is no shortage of it. From the moment we are born, we begin to die. They do not assure us of any given amount of days that we will be here; it promises nothing.

For many of you the joy, the wonderment, and the WOW of life will pass you by for many reasons.  The perfect time, The perfect person, the perfect moment, the perfect feeling. Although these reasons you make are valid in your minds, they are just an excuse. An excuse to be “safe”. To protect yourselves from something only imagined. With no proof that they could actually happen.

Don’t Wait to Find Out You Are Dying Before You Start Living
For many of you the joy, the wonderment, and the wow of life will pass you by

In his book The Essence of Success, one of my favorite authors and speakers, Earl Nightingale enlightens and gives us an authoritative estimate of what most people worry about.

  1. Things that never happen: 40 percent. 40 percent of the things you worry about will never occur, anyway.
  2. Things over and past that can’t be changed by all the worry in the world: 30 percent.
  3. Needless worries about our health: 12 percent.
  4. Petty, miscellaneous worries: 10 percent.
  5. Real, legitimate worries: 8 percent. Only 8 percent of your worries are worth concerning yourself about.
Ninety-two percent are pure fog with no substance at all.

This means that 92% of all worries are worthless.
Of the legitimate worries, there are two types of problems:

Those we cannot control and those we can. Most of our worries are in the first group.[1]

A palliative nurse recorded the most common regrets of the dying and put her findings into a book called “The Top Five Regrets of The Dying.” It’s not surprising to see what made the list as they are all things that touch each of our lives as we struggle to pay attention to and make time for things we love.

  1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
  2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
  3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
  4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
  5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.[2]

Far too many people will miss out on life searching or chasing the wrong things in life and will miss out on the WOW moments life gives you. WOW moments come individually, once, and disappear, never to appear again. Life assures we all have them, but only issues so many to each of us.

Don’t Wait to Find Out You Are Dying Before You Start Living
WOW moments come individually, once, and disappear, never to appear again

Don’t waste them. So, I say Don’t Wait to Find Out You Are Dying Before You Start Living.

The Spirit of Christmas Doesn’t Come from A Store, The Spirit of Christmas Means So Much More

It’s that time of the season again when we all rush about to get that perfect present for the ones we love, the perfect gift, the perfect ingredient for the perfect meal, or the perfect outfit. But the Spirit of Christmas doesn’t come from a store, the Spirit of Christmas means so much more.

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”

― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

It’s easy to get caught up in the logistics of the Christmas season. But we cannot buy the true Spirit of the season, we must give it.

The Spirit of Christmas Doesn’t Come from A Store, The Spirit of Christmas Means So Much More
But we cannot buy the true Spirit of the season, we must give it.

One of my favorite Christmas stories is of a mother and her young daughter who were racing about doing the last-minute shopping before Christmas.

Frazzled, tired, and with a lack of patience from a long day of crowds and parking lots, the mother and daughter embarked on one last store for one last gift.

After entering the store, the mother turned to her young daughter and said, “did you see the look that woman gave me?”. The young daughter replied with all the wisdom of her youth and replied “oh, she didn’t give you that look mommy, you’ve had it all day”.

It’s easy to get caught up in the trappings of the season and remember that the true Spirit of the Christmas season is in the giving of one’s self to another. We cannot purchase this in any store.

“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”
― Calvin Coolidge

Christmas is more than a day to receive, it’s a day to BELIEVE. Believe in peace on Earth, just for one day. Belief in Joy to the World, just for one day. Belief in the birth of a Savior. Belief in a jolly old fat man with a sleigh pulled by reindeer delivering presents to all the good children around the world.

Every child has two eyes and no two see the same view. But the joy seen threw the eyes of a child never disappears in its memories of Christmas. That’s the Spirit of Christmas. Wonder. Excitement. Joy. Sharing. Giving of one’s self to another. Caring. Joy. We can purchase none of which.

That’s why I say The Spirit of Christmas Doesn’t Come from A Store, The Spirit of Christmas Means So Much More.
